About World Vision Internship Program:  
 
The graduate trainees will form a pool from which future entry level positions in general management and programme management can be recruited. The internship program will also provide WVU with quality candidates for temporary or seasonal positions and projects.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 
 
 The applicants should be Ugandan citizens who meet the following criteria:-
  • Graduates who have completed studies in the relevant field of study identified above as per each location with either First class degree or 2nd Class Upper (CGPA 3.8 and above) i.e. Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Mass Communication, Procurement and Supply Chain Management, Business Administration/BCom with a bias in Accounting, Agriculture, Nutrition and Dietary, Public Health or Environmental Science or related discipline. The degree should have been attained in the last three years at most.
  • The graduates should be practicing Christians regardless of denomination, gender and ethnic background are particularly encouraged to apply.
  • Exhibit passion and genuine desire to serve among the poor in rural and semi urban areas of Uganda.
  • Possess a good character, honesty, high competency and generally in good physical and emotional health with evidence of a recent full medical check-up.

Background:
The mission of the Infectious Diseases institute (IDI) is to strengthen health systems in Africa, with strong emphasis on infectious diseases, through research and capacity development. IDI has five operational areas through which it works to achieve its mission: Prevention, Care and Treatment; Training, Research and Laboratory services (provided through a partnership with the Makerere University-Johns Hopkins University Core Lab) and Outreach.
So as to support the operations of the Finance and Administration department, IDI is seeking to recruit for the following position in Facilities
Job Title: Quantity Surveyor
General Summary: Working together mainly with the Facilities Engineer and Operations Manager, to establish and maintain standards ot excellence for facility maintenance and modiļ¬cation. He/she will also participate in engaging and supervising contractors — ensuring that they work up to the expected standard and within the time and cost limits.
Principal Accountabilities and Duties
Planning and budgeting
  • Actively participate in the development of annual operations budget by pricing/forecasting cost of different materials needed for projects
  • Assist the Facilities Engineer to monitor actual operations expenses.
Contracting
  • Develop or review engineering drawings, plans measurements and development of internal estimates for Works to be contracted
  • Review quotations and bids by potential contractors — ensuring that they meet lDl requirements and are economical
  • Craft and recommend optional quality solutions, where necessary
  • Supervise / oversee Works carried out by contractors ensuring that they meet quality specifications and that Works are carried out within time limits
  •  Consult with Architects, Engineers and contractors with respect to repairs and / or renovations
  • Prepare tender documents, budgets, bills of quantities, Specifications and other contractual documentation.
  • Write reports on projects including explaining major variations from budget.
  • Valuation of works carried out and preparation of interim Certificates of payment for Construction works
  • Track changes to design and/ or construction work and adjusting the budget projections accordingly.
  •  Perform any other duties that management may assign to you from time to time.
Education and Experience:
  • Degree in Quantity surveying Building Economics or related discipline, Experience of at least three years in construction Project
  • Management of construction and renovation works with a variety of building and infrastructure projects ,
  • Excellent communication skills both verbal and written; including ability to negotiate with potential contractors/service providers
  • Experience in managing /supervising contractors.
  • Should be a registered member of the institute of Surveyors Uganda (ISU) at a minimum of graduate Level
Other requirements:
  • Knowledge of maintenance trade procedures, equipment, tools and supplies commonly used to support the installation, maintenance and repair of building, tools and equipment.
  • Experience in working on Health sector infrastructure projects is an added advantage
  •  Knowledge of safety procedures and terminology Skills in assessing conditions and standard of buildings equipment and completed work
  • Knowledge of occupational hazards and standard health and safety practices
  • Knowledge of principles and practices of general building construction and renovations.
  •  A good working knowledge of MS Excel, MS Project and the ability to learn how to use specialist software (CAD, Microsoft project)
  • Excellent relationship-building and interpersonal skills
  • Team working
  • The ability to negotiate
  • Attention to detail and a methodical approach to work
