The position reports to the: Principal Engineer IP Services & Data Network Planning
Role:
The main purpose of the Job is to plan, design and implement architectural changes on MTN’s IP/MPLS infrastructure, Fixed Broadband aggregation, Data policing/deep packet inspection/charging enforcement, Mobile Data Core (3G, Wi-Fi), ISP and Data Centers to ensure the success of MTN’s data strategy in the market. As part of the role, the incumbent shall also carry out performance monitoring for the aforementioned infrastructure and recommend appropriate solutions for improvement
Responsibilities:
• Plan, monitor, coordinate and accept all new IP/MPLS developments, improvements and installations.
• Prepare weekly, monthly, quarterly performance monitoring reports on MTN's IP/MPLS infrastructure and provide recommendations on network improvements.
• Carry out Capacity Planning, Network Design & Implementation, Project Management for all IP Data Networks/Services including: Broadband & Managed Data Network Services, Fixed and Mobile Data Services, Bulk Internet Services, L2/L3 Corporate Customer solutions, Colocation services, Mobile office/Blackberry, Hosted ISP and Cloud Services.
• Participate in the introduction of new IP services and networking technologies to provide MTN with a competitive edge in the data & converged services arena.
• Spearhead the research and evaluation of the performance and potential of data/IP networking technologies including industry developments, so as to define and guide future plans & development opportunities for MTN.
• Ensure continuous availability of performance reports and metrics for all IP services and data infrastructure and recommend/implement enhancements to the systems to meet service/network KPIS thereby surpassing customer expectations.
• Review Designs & Validate all IP Services/Data Network Planning Infrastructure upgrades/changes before implementation.
• Assume the technical leadership for all IP Services/Data Network planning initiatives.
Required Academic qualifications and Experience;
• A BSc Electrical Engineering / BSc Telecommunications Engineering.
• Certifications in CCNA, CCDA, CCIP, IP Networks/Security/Telecoms industry as well as Project Management Training would be an added advantage
• A minimum of 2 years’ Experience with Telecoms Core Networks, Service Provider IP Networks and Systems management with skills in IP/MPLS networks, Mobile data core network ISP Services & Data Center infrastructure in an Architectural Role (Planning/Design/Implementation)
• Technical Knowledge of the operation of Data networks, including but not limited to router and switch configuration
Other attributes
• Proficiency in the use of Windows, UNIX Platforms and IP Networking.
• Proficiency in MS Office packages- Word, Excel, Power Point, Visio, Projects
• Highly innovative, results-oriented and have the ability to work long hours under pressure
