About RTI:
RTI International is for the USAID Uganda School Health and Reading Program, a five-year, USAID program that aims to improve early grade reading outcomes for children in primary grades and develop sustainable health education systems that support national HIV/AIDS prevention efforts.

Job Summary: The Communications and Advocacy Specialist will steer the USAID project’s communication and Advocacy strategy. S/he will be responsible for maintaining close relationship with the MoES, partners and other organizations to raise the profile of early grade reading and HIV/AIDS prevention.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

=Advise the RTI program staff on communication and advocacy issues including approaches, consistency of language and content of publications and press releases.
=Support the implementation of strategic plans for corporate communication and advocacy priorities, and ensure proper use of the program’s branding
=Assist raising awareness of the program’s work, generate public support and interest for its advocacy agenda and increase visibility of its work.
=Develop communications & advocacy work plans and budget including the development of a calendar of events that targets strategic groups, organizations and media.
=Be the primary custodian of the program’s branding strategy and marking plan.
=Perform any other duties as assigned by the Deputy Chief of Party.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

=The applicant must hold a good master’s degree with three years of experience in communications, public relations, journalism or related field; or hold a bachelor’s degree with six years of experience in a relevant sector
=Excellent English writing skills and fluency, in at least one other Ugandan language.
=Possess prior experience conducting communications campaigns and, capacity building efforts in Uganda;
=Fully competent in information systems management, particularly in publications software;
=Ability to regularly and flexibly travel between districts and designated project Units.
=The applicant must possess a high degree of motivation.
