Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Programming (40%): The GHSP program specialist will be responsible for support assigned Volunteers as their champion throughout their cycle from recruitment to close of service as their "champion" including but not limited to;
a. Site Development:
• Identify potential sites for GHSP Volunteer spouses and Health Volunteers, develop the scope of work for their assignment and assess the suitability of their prospective housing situation to ensure that it meets the required safety standards, has access to basic amenities and all the required paper work and payments have been completed by the hosting organization.
• Prepare the necessary paper work including a memorandum of understanding with the partner organization and furnish the admin unit with all the necessary information required to process the Volunteer's benefits before arrival.
• Expeditiously follow up on sites for GHSP Volunteers to ensure all the necessary conditions have been met prior to arrival
• Work closely with other Peace Corps staff and partners to explore strategic ways of utilizing GHSP spouses' skills to attain synergy with existing sectors and cross sectoral initiatives.
b. Volunteer Support: Act as the primary point of contact for GHSP Spouses and assigned public health volunteers for all their programmatic, technical and welfare needs including but not limited to;
• Prepare pre departure materials for Volunteers and share them with Peace Corps Headquarters as part of pre departure support for invitees
• Seeking out peer support and professional networks in country and linking the assigned Volunteers as appropriate for work related networking
• Serving as the primary liaison between PC Uganda, the Volunteer site and the Volunteers for all work related interactions
• Offering ongoing technical backstopping to ensure the Volunteers' activities are aligned with Peace Corps Uganda's respective sector frame works
• Ensuring timely submission of the Volunteer reporting forms and providing timely feedback to Volunteers on performance
• Updating partners, PC management, administrative staff and site of any changes in Volunteer service status in a timely manner ensuring continuity of work and timely processing of any required documentation
• Serve as primary back up for GHSP PM on all GHSP programmatic activities
• Actively participate in PEPFAR technical working groups as assigned
• Write and share success stories of assigned Volunteers in a timely periodic manner through the various for available for dissemination of Volunteer successes.
2. Administrative Support (30%)
• Oversee the filing and documentation of GHSP site files
• Ensure timely processing of vacation requests, travel reimbursements for Volunteers
• Draw itineraries and make necessary reservations for state side facilitators from Peace Corps Head Quarters and Seed Global Health for site visits, in-service and close of service trainings.
3. Training (25%)
• Work in liaison with the training team the GHSP program specialist will support the training cycle for assigned Volunteers including training design and evaluation, training needs assessment, liaison with facilitators, lesson planning, scheduling, delivery and all assigned logistics for pre-service training, in-service training, mid-service training, close of service training and any other trainings as necessary to help Volunteers accomplish their assignment.
• Prepare budget projections for Volunteer training activities from time to time as requested by the GHSP PM, Training Manager or their designee
4. Other duties (5%)
• Serve as a periodic duty officer attending to emergency Volunteer calls after working hours and hand over the weekends
• Ensure all assigned Volunteers submit their emergency site locator forms and have up-to-date whereabouts information in the Volunteer database
• Ensure all assigned Volunteers access up dated information for emergency action response including but not limited to travel alerts and warden information
• Perform any other duties as may be assigned from time to time
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
• The applicant should hold a Bachelor’s level degree in Nursing and/or other health related training with strong experience in nursing education and regulation
• A minimum of two years of professional experience preferably in a fast paced cross cultural setting providing technical support or direct leadership to individuals on a long term basis through mentorship, liaison and/or coaching.
• Past exposure and experience in HIV, Malaria, WASH or Nutrition programming, health promotion or medical/nursing education will be an added advantage.
