About A2N:

The Africa 2000 Network Uganda is a local Non-Government Organization (NGO) registered with the National Board for Registration of Non-Government Organizations and duly registered with the Ministry of Justice as a Company Limited with Guarantee without share capital. A2N- Uganda has been operating as an NGO since 2002 and has a national mandate to reach out to small and medium farmers in rural and semi-urban areas of Uganda to improve farming practices, increase productivity and production at household level to foster food and nutritional security and organizing farmers for market oriented farming to boost household incomes.

Job Summary:

The Executive Director (ED) shall provide the overall management of the A2N-Uganda and shall be responsible for the implementation of all the A2N-Uganda’s policies, programs and activities.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

-Implement the Strategic Plan for A2N-Uganda.
-Review and design appropriate structures of the A2N-Uganda and ensure their appropriate implementation, including the recruitment into the service of the A2N-Uganda, staff in accordance with the provisions of the Human Resources Manual.
-Provide overall management and control of the A2N-Uganda’s operations in a form that will ensure discipline, productivity and responsiveness to the overall function of the A2N-Uganda.
-Provide overall responsibility over the A2N-Uganda’s finances and present budgets and programs to the A2N-Uganda’s Board of Directors for consideration and approval.
-Be responsible for the overall A2N-Uganda policy development, provide such policy initiatives and programs to the Board of Directors of the A2N-Uganda for consideration and approval and be responsible for the overall implementation of policies and programs approved by the A2N-Uganda Board.
-Be responsible for the whole capacity development process including institutional and human resource development of the A2N-Uganda.
-Develop strategies and plans for mobilizing national and international financial resources for the implementation of Programs of the A2N-Uganda.
-Develop work plans and set performance targets for the implementation of the A2N-Uganda policies and programs and be responsible for the monitoring and evaluation of that implementation.
-Be overly responsible for the M & E and necessary advice in the implementation of the A2N-Uganda’s function with all its stakeholders.
-Promote and facilitate the development and implementation of Information and Communications Technology System (ICT)
-Ensure smooth communication between staff and the A2N-Uganda Board of Directors.
-Promote a positive organisational culture and image of the A2N-Uganda.
-Organize Board meetings in liaison with the Chairperson
-Represent the A2N-Uganda at the appropriate national and international forums.
-Coordinate the activities of the A2N-Uganda with other NGOs and relevant government agencies and development partners.
-Carry out any other such responsibilities which the Board of Directors of the A2N-Uganda may assign him/her from time to time.
-Contract and Reporting Requirements.
-The ED will be appointed on a time-based contract for a term of four years, renewable upon satisfactory performance. The contract will also be subjected to review after the first year.
-The ED will report to the Chairperson of the A2N-Uganda Board of Directors and will be required to present quarterly progress reports to the Board of Directors of the A2N-Uganda.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

-The candidates should possess Masters’ Degree in any of the following disciplines: Agricultural Sciences, Business Administration or Economics.
-Other qualifications should be in the fields of: Agricultural Economics, Development Studies, Project Management, NGO Management, Organizational Development, or any other relevant field.
-Demonstrated leadership/managerial skills and should have worked in a senior administrative/management position for at least ten (10) years in a reputable organization.
-Posses transformational leadership skills
-Must have experience of working in the NGO world.
-Must have strong administrative and organizational skills.
-High ethical standards and be of outstanding integrity
-Result and team oriented individual with good communication and interpersonal skills.
-Innovativeness, flexibility and ability to work under pressure.

Job Summary:

The Anesthetic Officer will provide professional anesthesia services and ensure an efficient, effective and safe procedure

Key Duties & Responsibilities:

-Planning and budgeting for anesthetic activities in the wellness center.
-Participate in the performance of pre-anesthetic care by assessing staff notes, laboratory work and patient histories
-Identify pre-existing medical conditions and communicate to surgeons.
-Prepare, set up maintain and check the anesthetic equipment and instruments to ensure that they are clean, safe and in good working order.
-Prepare SMC clients for anesthesia.
-Administer anesthesia according to national and local anesthetic guidelines and procedures, ensuring a high standard of patient care.
-Participate in the management of the anesthetic procedure by monitoring appropriate physical, physiochemical and biochemical indicators such as blood pressure.
-Ensure prompt interventions in emergency situations.
-Requisitioning and accounting for anesthetic materials and sundries.
-Charged with emergency preparedness of the wellness centre.
-Carryout post operative follow up of SMC clients for AEs

-Submit timely and clear accountability to relevant stakeholders.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

-The candidate must be a holder of a degree in any of the following fields -Economics, Agriculture, Veterinary, Sociology, Development or a related field.
-The candidate must be computer literate and well conversant with the following packages – MS Access, excel, PowerPoint, Word and Internet applications plus other packages such as statistical analysis.
-Ability to speak Luo would be an added advantage. Experience:
-The ideal candidate should possess eight years senior field experience with credibility to provide direction, support and oversight in managing projects.
-Should understand the critical success factors in community development and have designed and managed projects that created real impact.
-Must have strong skills in training of trainers, projects writing and communication (writing and verbal) and able to think outside the development box.
-Must have experience in cross cutting issues of gender, disability, HIV/AIDS, land advocacy, agro-business and climate change.
-Must have had experience in planning, development and implementation of new projects in the fields indicated.
-Ability to write proposals and seek funding from local and international donors
-Ability to deliver on key deliverables with minimum reminders and on time.
-Excellent ability to analyse information.
-An inclusive, supportive and participatory approach to working with others.
-A self motivated approach to delivering programmes.
-Must have very good communication skills with all sectors of the community and agencies.
-Time management in the delivery of project programmes is essential.
