Careers at The Ankrah Foundation (TAF) in Uganda-Principal

Job Title: Principal

About TAF:

The Ankrah Foundation (TAF), Mukono, Uganda is in the process of establishing a Private Degree Awarding Tertiary Institution, the School of Health and Sciences (TASHS), to award the Degree of Bachelor of Sciences in Clinical Medicine and Community Health. The Ankrah Foundation is seeking the services of a Principal to lead the institutional development phase and creation of an educational programme that advances the clinical officers, and ultimately other medical professionals to a higher level of practice.

Job Summary:

The Principal will be responsible to the Governing Council which answers to the Board of Trustees of TAF. The Principal will have general supervision over the work of the School, all staff – teaching and non-teaching, – necessary for the training of clinical officers. He/she shall have such powers and duties as may be defined as appropriate by the School’s Governing Council.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

-He/she will act as the Secretary to the Governing Council of the School, and chair the Academic Board of TASHS.
-Responsible also for the coordination of all academic programmes offered by the School, each department of which is the responsibility of a respective head;
-Ensure that appropriate programmes are written and submitted to the Council for transmission to the National Council for Higher Education for accreditation;
-The job bearer will serve as the overall overseer of examinations which will be the responsibility of the heads of departments in each of the respective areas of study;
-Develop strong ties with health care centers to enhance clinical officer’s competences;
-While working closely with other academic staff, develop proposals to the Academic Board for extension, revision and improvement of the Academic programmes offered by the School;
-Be responsible for implementing the long-term academic policy as approved by the Academic Board and the Governing Council
-Facilitate the cooperation/collaboration with local, regional and international health related institutions for strengthening TASHS.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

-The candidate should possess at least a Masters Degree in Medicine, Public Health or Health Service Management.
-A first Degree in health or medicine is not an absolute requirement, but carries an added advantage
-The applicant must be adherent to, or do not oppose the Christian faith
-All candidates should have taught at University level, or at a degree-awarding institution at the rank of senior lecturer or higher.
-Possess publications in reviewed journals are not an absolute requirement, but carry an added advantage
-The applicant must possess some exposure to international collaboration in/ with other institutions especially through research.
-Previous work exposure abroad will carry added advantage
-Must have managed or been part of management team at a large scale health facility or health institution
-Must be immediately available for the assignment as soon as the offer of appointment is made Should possess membership in relevant professional bodies

Age: Not to exceed 50 years

NB: Non-Ugandans may apply

Remuneration: The position carries an attractive pay package which includes a basic salary and some duty allowances. This is a two-year contract appointment with the possibility of extension to 5 years with one year on probation.
