Career at St Francis Chapel Makerere-Chaplain

St Francis Chapel, is one of the three Chaplaincies under the Dean of Students’ office, Makerere University, is the Chaplaincy of the Church of Uganda (Anglican), under the jurisdiction of the Diocese of Kampala.   The Chaplin reports to the Dean of Students of the University and is accountable to the Bishop of Kampala Diocese for his ecclesiastical duties.  St Francis Chapel is seeking to fill the vacant position of Chaplain.

1.Objective of the Position

The mission of St Francis Chapel is “to make disciples who will make disciples”.  The role of the Chaplain is to ensure and manage the provision of services of Christian worship, mission, ministry and discipleship to Makerere University Church of Uganda community (students, staff and their families, and visitors) and other members of the St. Francis Chapel.

2.Key Functions

-Planning for, managing conducting and ensuring the provision of pastoral care, liturgical, pastoral and initiation services including baptism, confirmation, Holy Communion, weddings and funerals, as the incumbent;
-Managing superintending over and ensuring adequate provision of orderly worship services at St Francis Chapel, including (not limited to) Sunday Worship Services;
-Developing and implementing discipleship and missions programmes for all the ages – children, youths, young adults, single and married people, families and senior citizens;
-Organizing seminars, conferences, missions and other programmes for students;
-Planning for and providing Anglican Chaplaincy services to all Makerere University schools and institutes and other related Institutions, including Makerere College School;
-Staff supervision and development, for both ordained and Lay staff of the Chapel.

3.Person Specification

-Should be an ordained priest of the Church of Uganda (Anglican) in good standing, with relevant experience of 5 years;
-Not exceeding 55 years of age;
-Should have well-developed pastoral, managerial and leadership skills, in particular team leadership, strategic planning, inter-personal relationships, listening and discernment skills;
-An effective communicator, and able to work with youth in a multi-cultural and multi-disciplinary setting;
-Must hold at least a Master’s degree in Theological Studies or its equivalent from an institution recognized by the Church of Uganda.

4.Remuneration M.6 Salary Scale

Terms: An initial contract of two years renewable subject to satisfactory performance following appraisal.
